On May 2, 1984, Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan met at the airport in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Kathy and I qualified for press passes. That was pretty exciting for a remote wilderness town of 30,000. I made this image with a Canon F1 camera and Canon 600mm lens on slide film but decided it looked a lot better as a black and white finished photograph.
