Every time we drove from Duluth to Minneapolis on I-35, just past the Black Bear Casino, we’d cross over a well-maintained blacktop road. Right below was a large assemblage of small, but old, tractors and other farming implements. We could never quite figure out how to get there until taking back roads once we discovered it accidentally. The proprietor, Bob Teitz ( now deceased) was working in the yard with a young fella.
We introduced ourselves and asked permission to wander around his lot to do some “Art.” He agreed and we visited two or three times, me photographing and Kathy sketching.
Not pressed for time since we visited Bob’s lot deliberately, I gained a sense of accomplishment reacquainting myself with some basic rules of serious photography – keep looking and let ideas soak in, use a tripod then try to make a few good photographs rather than dozens of crappy ones done in a hurry. So, here’s one of my top picks after about 10 hours spent in a small lot of opportunity. Thanks Bob and hope you are enjoying the afterlife.
