About the Image:

During our 30 years in Fairbanks, Alaska, we tried gardening.  We’d get the garden looking real sharp then go out for a week or ten days hunting for photographic images and the garden would get taken over by the weeds.  After several of these episodes, I finally sowed in $20.00 worth of wild flower mix and we went to the farmer’s market instead for the vegetables.  We got a spectacular crop of flowers and just before the frost took them, we picked a bunch, placed them one-by-one on my studio floor and I shot the arrangement with a Wisner 4×5 inch camera and 210mm Rodenstock lens on Fuji Velvia film.  I got several arranged flower shots the first year and continued the wild flower mix regimen for a few years eventually acquiring a short series of images like this.
