About the Image:
This image was made with a Wisner 4×5 Technical field camera and 360mm Rodenstock Apo-Ronar lens on Velvia film in a 6×12cm roll film back. The location is a short hike off the Denali Highway about 40 miles west of Paxson near the the bridge crossing the Maclaren River. I had tried to find a clear view like this through the high brush for years and was parked up on the Maclaren Summit taking a break when along comes my friend and mentor Steve McCutcheon, the “grand daddy” of Alaska Photographers and a signer of the Alaska Constitution. I told him of my years of searching and he told me exactly which gravel pit to turn into and which almost invisible path to walk out on. Maybe I should have called it Steve’s View.
